CYBER SECURITY FOR WOMEN

WEC-MVGR joined in an Online Awareness Program conducted by Directorate of Empowerment of Women and Grievance JNTUK in association with JNTU – Digital Monitoring Cell on a topic “Countering Cyber Attacks & Cyber Frauds on Women” on 4th February, 2023. The Resource person for this awareness program is Dr. A.S.N. Chakravarthy, Professor of CSE and special officer SDC, WDC & DMC JNTU Kakinada. 

The Resource person addressed all the affiliated colleges of JNTUK Students and he spoke on challenges and threats in the cyber world, Risks of the internet, types of threats, financial threats, personal threats and security threats.  He also made mention about cyber-crimes and cyber ethics like ransomware attacks, identity theft, financial frauds, cyber extortion and steps to follow to maintain cyber hygiene.  He also stressed on Online Women Safety (OWS), securing yourself, online preventive measures and reporting mechanisms.  He explained about cyber security apps like Escan, K7 Security, Spyera,  Quick heal, etc., are available from Cyber Swachhta Kendra Website for protecting oneself from Cyber-attacks.

He emphasized on different kinds of Cyber Crimes such as Calls Spoofing, Dating Webrite, Social Trolling, Profile Hacking, Fake Matrimonial profile, cyber staking etc., He warned against few protecting methods like use good and well known software, do not connect to public WI-FI unless it is compulsory, do not allow any cookies to save your information, if any app accessing your personal information just switch it off.

He finally mentioned the top seven cyber safety actions (install OS/Software updates, Run Anti-Virus Software, Prevent Identity Theft, Turn on Personal Firewalls, Avoid Spyware/Adware, Protect Passwords and Back up important files) to be followed by every individual to protect themselves from cyber-crimes.

For this awareness program, MVGR College of Engineering, Women Empowerment Cell Convener Dr. M. Sarah Kamala Kumari and WEC Coordinators of Various Departments, Staff & Girl Students were present.
