NSS unit conducted a legal awareness camp on Ragging & Drug abuse

MVGR NSS Unit, in association with District Legal Services Authority, Vizianagaram, and Special Enforcement Bureau, Andhra Pradesh combinedly organized a LEGAL AWARENESS CAMP ON RAGGING AND DRUG ABUSE to engineering students in the college campus on Thursday.

For this program, Sri. B Sai Kalyan Chakravarthi, Honorable Principal District Judge cum Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Vizianagaram; Sri. Vakul Jindal, IPS, SP, District Police Authority, Vizianagaram and Smt. K Vijaya Kalyani, Civil Judge (Senior Division) cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Vizianagaram were attended as chief guests.

Sri. Kalyan Chakravarthi, Honorable Principal District Judge, Vizianagaram shared that the students abstained from drug use and students were not able to come out of that after they become drug addicts. He insisted that drug usage is wrong and will ruin a person's entire life. He advised the students to refrain from supporting on-campus ragging and one should keep in mind that serving for nation should be the primary goal and money should be the last goal. Additionally, he counselled the students to strive for their goals and enjoy life with supportive friends. He also created awareness on road bike accidents where young age students losing lives by over speed vehicle driving and that too without wearing helmets. It is not only causing havoc to their families but opposite traffic passengers also getting affected with such kind of over speed two-wheeler driving.

Sri. Vakul Jindal, IPS, SP-VZM, shared the legal policies of drug usage.  He said that purchasing, using, and possessing drugs were treated as offenses and considered as non-bailable case. He also said that once case registered under narcotics section, imprisonment of 20 years will be applicable to anyone. He advised students to not involve in any kind of drug activities inside or outside campus also. Finally, he also spoke about the two-wheelers safety by wearing helmets even though one travels for a shorter distance. 

Smt. K. Vijaya Kalyani, a renowned speaker, Civil Judge (Senior Division) Vizianagaram outlined the several awareness campaigns conducted by District Legal Services Authority to help the underprivileged, including women and children, members of scheduled castes, and those with yearly incomes under three lakhs, to receive legal aid. She created awareness about drug usage and how it ruins one’s life to all engineering students. She cautioned the ill-effects of on-campus ragging among students and its legal complications also. Additionally, she highlighted the importance of wearing helmets while bike driving and without that how it leads to the possibility of traffic accidents.

Director of MVGR, Prof. P. Sitharama Raju educated the students about ragging, drug usage and abstained from endorsing any unfavorable actions associated with it. He declared that MVGR does not support or engage in any kind of ragging and drug usage in and around campus.

Under corporate social responsibility, District Legal Services Authority committee distributed 50 two-wheeler helmets to MVGR students so that they can drive safely on public roads.
