INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY CELEBRATIONS AT MVGR
Women Empowerment Cell of MVGR celebrated International Women’s Day with the theme of "DIGITALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equity" on Thursday. For this event, Smt. M. Deepika Patil, Superintendent of Police, Vizianagaram invited as CHIEF GUEST, Prof. D. Rajya Lakshmi, Director Empowerment of Women & Grievances I/C, JNTU – GV invited as GUEST OF HONOR and special invitee, Smt. Kranthi Chalat, MVGR ALUMNA, (Chemical Engineering 1998-2002), Director of Release Management at Zenoti, Hyderabad.
Chief Guest, Smt. M. Deepika Patil addressed the students quoting the differences between equality and equity. She was very happy that boys also participated in womens day celebration today at MVGR which signifies the gender equity. She said that representation of women is lesser in higher positions of IT as well as government professions. Women should have perseverance and courage, supportive partners and face the hurdles and continue their profession despite of the family issues. We should always speak up and never suffer in silence and as a woman we should help other women and think that it is our duty.
Guest of Honor, Prof. D. Rajya Lakshmi highlighted that by-nature woman has more balancing power, have managing qualities, and able to take independent decisions. Women should give more focus on skill orientation and experiential knowledge will give us more information to achieve greater heights.
Special invitee, Smt. Kranthi Chalat stated that there are lot of opportunities for women and all we need to have courage to make decisions and should feel proud of yourselves where you will stand at the end.
Dr. KVL Raju, Principal, MVGR happily shared that MVGR institution is absorbing equity from long time and also promoting more gender neutrality in view of providing opportunities and creative platforms to showcase their talents. Mr. S Mohan Kumar, Dean Students stated that if one can understand women properly then we can provide or create equity in all the working and studying environments. Dr. M Sarah Kamala Kumari, WEC Convenor, highlighted the events conducted over the last year as a part of Women empowerment cell and Internal Complaints Committee. Ms. A. Indu Jahnavi, Student President, stated that providing equality is good but providing equity pushes bar higher which provides every one equal opportunity according to their skill sets.
At last, prizes were distributed for all the winners of events like Essay writing on DigitAll, TED TALK on Cyber awarens, poster presentation, conducted as a part of womens day celebrations.
In this program, WEC Convener Dr. M. Sarah Kamala Kumari, WEC Department Coordinators, Women staff, and all girl and boy students were present.
